Seek The Truth

Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me," and "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." (John 14:2; 3:16-17)

Entertainment Industry Clean Up Your Act!

I wish the entertainment industry would clean up their act.

Recently, a Florida mother was incensed when she saw a commercial for the upcoming ABC series, “Betrayal”. The clip showed a couple doing the dirty deed. Only problem was that the commercial showed during Good Morning America and she was watching the show with her 8 year-old son!

Outraged, she wrote this searing blog post that went viral.

She took a picture of the scene and posted it on Facebook and Facebook took it down as inappropriate.

I recently checked out from my public library, “Flight” starting Denzel Washington. I thought it would be a good drama since I like Denzel. It’s rated R.

Rated R remark.

This is what the R rating should say! (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

I usually don’t pay to see an R-rated movie, I wait till I can get it from the library for free. I was in a hurry and didn’t take time to read why it got the “R” rating. I understand there’s a plane crash scene and alcohol and drub abuse. It’s what the movies about. What I wasn’t expecting was the nude scene in the opening scene.

That’s what makes me mad. As a fiction writer I know that scenes can be easily cut if it doesn’t move the plot along. The only vital part of this scene was Denzel’s character “Whip”, getting a phone call that he was scheduled to fly to Atlanta. His female “friend” didn’t need to be naked throughout the whole scene. Had she been wearing a nightgown or even a tank top and undies would have sexier and passable. Having her naked didn’t change or help the plot at all.

Then comes the language. It’s not necessary to have the “F” word in every scene.

What really makes me mad is that this movie had a great lesson and even had several Christian messages. “Whip’s” co-pilot was Christian. He and his wife prayed with Whip in the co-pilot’s hospital room. I felt they made fun of Christianity because they had the wife saying, “Thank you, Jesus,” several times and not in a natural way.

Why must the entertainment industry ruin a scene with nudity when it’s not needed?

We Christians need to send them a message. We will not pay to see any “R” rated movie that has sex, nudity, excessive violence or excessive foul language.

When ABC was airing GCB, I was outraged and I didn’t watch an ABC show on TV until they too it off. Now they have “Betrayal” coming in the fall. As Christians, we should NOT watch shows with names like, “Revenge” or “Mistresses” and shows that don’t portray a “family” lifestyle like “Modern Family”.

ABC is owned by Disney. Glenn Beck worded it nicely when he suggested to the Florida mom that she should boycott Disney:

“Are they selling ‘family’ or are they selling ‘filth?’”

I agree. We, as Christians should voice our disgust with all the smut and filth that should be labeled “pornography” that’s passed as “entertainment”. What every happened the “X” rating. That scene in “Flight” should have given it an “X” rating not an “R”.

Actors should refuse to appear naked in scenes.

We need to attack them where it hurts – the box office and TV ratings.

If you agree with me that the entertainment industry needs to clean up their act, please share this blog post and encourage your friends to now watch these shows or movies.

I would have given “Flight” 3 stars, but I can, in all good conscience, give it 2 stars for that awful opening scene.
