God’s Name is Holy

God’s Name is Holy
This entry is part 19 of 21 in the series Christianity

“…hallowed be your name…” ~Matthew 6:9b

When the church finds its members falling into scandalous sins, then it is time for the church to awake and cry to God for Revival. When such things are taking place as give enemies of [Christianity] an occasion for reproach, it is time for the church to ask God, “What will become of Thy great name?” ~Charles G. Finney

WWJD? Reflection: Jesus was very concerned about God’s name. In teaching us to pray, He told us first to “hallow” (make holy, set apart) His name. In the Old Testament account of Moses being given the ten commandments, we learn that the third commandment prohibits misuse or defaming God’s name.

When Christians fall into open sin, it gives unbelievers cause to mock our faith, which is an insult to God. If we would ask “What Would Jesus Do?” about the name of the Father, we would surely get the answer, “Hallow His name.” And not just in word only, but also we would look to our deeds as an expression of hallowing God’s name. We would also see the sins of the Church as a desecration of His name, and ask Him for renewal in the Bod of Christ.
