Amish Grace – a perfect example of WWJD

I watched the movie Amish Grace shown last week on Lifetme channel. It’s the real-life story of Amish families whose daughters were killed by a lone gunman in 2006 in Nickel Mines, Pennsylvania. Charlie Roberts, known as the “man who drove the milk truck”, in an attempt to revenge the death of his baby daughter who died at birth, drove up to the Amish school, told the boys to leave and proceeded to shoot the girls then he shot himself.

The overwhelming message in this story is forgiveness. Three Amish men, including the father of one of the murdered girls, went to visit Roberts’ wife, Tammy to offer forgiveness quoting the Lord’s prayer.

I can’t imagine the sacrifice it took to express forgiveness for such a heinous crime. But when you look at it, it’s what Jesus would have done.

What would you have done? If a father can forgive the man that killed his daughter, why can’t you forgive someone who’s wronged you. It’s what Jesus would do.
