Socialism is a popular word these days. It seems like the American Democratic Party has gone further to the left and closer to Socialism. Some of the Democratic presidential contenders even call themselves “Democratic Socialists”.
Then we have the folks the yell, “White Nationalist!” Even, “Fascist!” So, are Fascists so far right that they become leftists?
As I was researching my family’s Spanish ancestry, I came across a branch of my tree on my mom’s side that was heavily involved in Spain’s Fascist Party in the 1930s which lead to Spain’s Civil War. That got me thinking….
What’s the difference between Fascism and Socialism?
Fascism is the most “workable” form of Socialism.

This video from PragerU featuring Dinesh D’Souza, has the best, and most logical, explanation of the difference between Fascism and Socialism.
“Socialism mobilizes people by class, Fascism mobilizes people by appealing to their national identity as well as their class. Fascists are Socialists with a national identity.”

Ah! That explains the whole Spanish civil war. My second cousin a few times removed, Jose Antonio Primo de Rivera was the head of the Spanish Fascist Party called “The Falange”. He comes from a long line of Spanish dictators and socialist politicians.

My great grandfather, Innocente Primo de Rivera, dropped the “Primo de” part of his surname after he moved to Puerto Rico in the 1880s. I’m thinking it was to disassociate himself from the line of Primo de Riveras in Spain. “Rivera” is a way more common Hispanic surname — like Jones or Smith.
False Labeling
These days, social media users’ quickly respond to anything anybody says — whether left or right — instantly throwing a label at them — without really knowing the TRUTH of what is really behind the label.
