The Lies Satan Speaks: How to Overcome Temptation

Satan and his helpers are all around us. He speaks to us in the form of temptations — dangling pretty things in front of us and trying to get us to lie, cheat, steal even kill to get them.

If you put your trust in the Lord, then His Holy Spirit will guide you where He wants you to go. Moreover, when an idea comes to mind or your instinct is telling you it’s the right thing to do, stop for one more minute to ask, “Lord, is this really what you want me to do?” Or “What would Jesus do?”

If you still have that urge, then it’s the right thing. If all of a sudden, you feel a sense of dread, then run away.

Satan is always trying to steer you in the wrong direction.

Whether it’s through an offer that seems too good to be true or the carrot stick of power and money, you’ve got to make sure that it’s not Satan. The risk may be too great.

How do you discern (tell the difference) if the message is coming from God or from Satan? It’s not as simple as the angel and the devil standing on either of your shoulders whispering in your ears. We know that we should follow the angel’s advice, but end up following the devil’s temptation because it’s too good to pass up.

Satan wouldn’t make fun of you. He’ll want to be your buddy so you can hang around with him. Bad idea.

Follow Christ. Satan’s days are numbered. Christ will come back and rule forever.

Jesus said in the Book of Revelation…

But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”

Revelation 21:8

That chapter of Revelation, chapter 21, is one of my favorite Bible chapters. It starts out telling us how great the new Heaven and the new Earth will be. That there will be no crying or pain. Yay! That’s our glorious hope! That’s why we believe that Jesus is our savior — that He took our sins away and made us pure and holy so we will be allowed into Heaven. That is Grace.

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.

Ephesians 2:8-9

The Other Option — is Hell

Folks, there is no such thing as Purgatory. Purgatory is an invention of the old Catholic church leaders in the Middle Ages who were trying to get people to pay for the building of cathedrals by selling indulgences. You can’t buy your way into Heaven. Moreover, you’ll never be good enough to get into Heaven unless you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior by repenting of your sins and getting baptized.

Purgatory is Hell.

What You Need to Do to Avoid Hell

Pray this prayer right now…..

“Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins. Right now, I turn from my sins and open the door of my heart and life to you. I confess You as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me. Amen.”

Next Steps in Your New Walk with Jesus…

  1. Start reading the Bible daily to get to know God. If you don’t have one, I recommend the YouVersion, and Through the Word app — both are free and have a lot of great Bible studies.
  2. Pray every day. Talk to God. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you daily.
  3. Find and join a Bible-believing church — preferably a non-denominational one and be baptized!

Jesus Said over and over again…

“Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.”

Revelation‬ ‭3:22‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

John‬ ‭8:32‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Soli Deo Gloria

  1. […] For me, it’s arthritis. I have it in my hands, knees, and feet. I pray everyday for God to heal me, but, no. It keeps me humble because I have to ask God for strength to finish a hike. I have to depend on Him. Because I depend on Him for all my needs, He gladly provides. His grace is all I need. With the power of His grace, I can resist the devil’s temptations. […]
