Do You Belong to God? Are You Secure Forever in His Promise?

True believers in the Salvation of Jesus Christ are:

  • Chosen
  • Predestined
  • Redeemed
  • Sealed with the Spirit

The Apostle Paul wrote to the Gentiles in Ephesus…

And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him.

Ephesians 1:13-14

The Holy Spirit Seals Believers

Indwelling — that means the Holy Spirit is living inside your heart and soul. He seals the believer at the moment of Salvation — assuring your forgiveness, redemption. He guarantees your future inheritance. At that point, you belong to God!

It is God who enables us, along with you, to stand firm for Christ. He has commissioned us, and he has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first installment that guarantees everything he has promised us….

God himself has prepared us for this, and as a guarantee he has given us his Holy Spirit.

2 Corinthians 1:21-22; 5:5

You then Get Spiritual Gifts…

The Holy Spirit…

  • Has access to all the wisdom and knowledge of God. Remember the forbidden fruit that Eve and Adam ate which started the whole sin mess? Well, that was from the the “tree of the knowledge of good and evil” (Genesis 2:15-17). The Holy Spirit gives you access to all that wisdom!
  • Cannot lie.
  • Only speaks the truth.
  • Is the best guide ever!
  • Is your internal GPS — if you’re going in the wrong direction, He lets you know!
  • Helps you learn to tell the difference — discern — the voice of Satan and that from God.
  • Speaks with a soft voice and subtle nudgings — ah, but sometimes He does hit you upside the head when God needs to get your attention! (As He did with me!)

But you have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know, and what he teaches is true—it is not a lie. So just as he has taught you, remain in fellowship with Christ.

1 John 2:27

The Holy Spirit is the Wind in Your Sails…

A motorboat runs on its own power source — the engine. A rowboat, kayak or canoe runs on your power. A sailboat is dependent on the wind. So, like a sailboat, let the wind of the Holy Spirit push you in order to move you forward in God’s will for your life.

If you don’t have the Holy Spirit in you, you do not belong to God...

You belong to the devil.

Dear children, don’t let anyone deceive you about this: When people do what is right, it shows that they are righteous, even as Christ is righteous. But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil. Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God.

1 John 3:7-9

Paul explains in his letter to the Ephesians…

Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.

Ephesians 1:4-8

Each saved person magnifies the glory of God’s grace!

If you want to receive the Holy Spirit and all the benefits of the Salvation of Jesus Christ, this is what you MUST do…

Believe. Repent. Be Baptized. Receive the Holy Spirit.

Pray this prayer humbly and wholeheartedly…

“Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins. Please forgive me. Right now, I turn from my sins and open the door of my heart and my life to you. I confess You as my personal Lord and Savior. I will follow you for the rest of my life. Thank You, Jesus, for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Next Steps in Your New Walk with Jesus…

  1. Start reading the Bible daily. If you don’t have one, I recommend the YouVersion, Bible.app and Through the Word app — both are free and have a lot of great daily devotionals and Bible studies.
  2. Pray every day. Talk to God. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you daily.
  3. Find and join a Bible-believing church — preferably a non-denominational one and be baptized!

Don’t forget the 5 Solas…

  1. Sola Scriptura (“Scripture alone”): The Bible alone is our highest authority.
  2. Sola Fide (“Faith alone”): We are saved through faith alone in Jesus Christ.
  3. Sola Gratia (“Grace alone”): We are saved by the grace of God alone.
  4. Solus Christus (“Christ alone”): Jesus Christ alone is our Savior, Redeemer, Lord and King
  5. Soli Deo Gloria (“to God alone be the Glory.”): It’s all about God not us.

  1. […] Yesterday I wrote that the Holy Spirit is like a sailboat. You have to let Him be the wind in your sails so you can function. Thinking, “I’ve got this!” is only going to make the situation worse, because there is no way you can deal with whatever the problem is by yourself. That will kill you or make things worse. You have to admit to yourself — I can’t do it by myself — I need God! […]
