Do You Honor Jesus Every Day? Not Just on Christ the King Day

November 22 is Christ the King Day, a day when Catholics honor Jesus. In a few days, Americans will celebrate Thanksgiving — a day to thank God. This is all well and good, but we need to honor and thank God EVERY DAY. In fact, He should be honored several times a day.

So far in this season of gratitude, we’ve talked about…

Certainly, all the above honors God and that’s what we’re supposed to do every day. How? Well, the Bible tells us….

Honor and Praise the Lord

Jude, Jesus’ brother told us…

“All glory to him who alone is God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord. All glory, majesty, power, and authority are his before all time, and in the present, and beyond all time! Amen.”

‭‭Jude‬ ‭1:25‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Salvation is THROUGH JESUS ALONE! Not by anything we humans can ever do. All authority is HIS before the world was created, right now and for all eternity. No human can ever claim authority over Jesus’ church — ever!

Only Jesus is God!

“All honor and glory to God forever and ever! He is the eternal King, the unseen one who never dies; he alone is God. Amen.”

‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭1:17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Only Jesus was resurrected and is alive. Only HE is God. Only HE, through the Holy Spirit, can be our advocate and intercessor. Mary and the saints were all human. They died. They’re souls may be in heaven, but their bodies are still here on earth until the Rapture. They are not gods, we humans are not to worship them. That is idolatry and God hates that. It is a sin.

Only Jesus is Worthy of Glory and Honor

“You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.”

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭4:11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Remain Faithful and Strong Through the Trials of Life

Jesus told us that we’d have trials on this earth…

33 “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

John 16:33 NLT

And Paul told us…

Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings (trials), because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

Romans 5:3-5 NIV

Peter told us…

“These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.”

‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭1:7‬ ‭NLT‬‬

If you are a born-again Christian, your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit so you should honor God with your body. Paul reminds of us of this…

19 Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, 20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NLT

Our Reward

If we strive to live holy, grateful and righteous lives, we will get our reward in heaven.

“But there will be glory and honor and peace from God for all who do good—for the Jew first and also for the Gentile.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭2:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Psalm 46

This is one of my favorite psalms to pray back to God…

God is our refuge and strength,
always ready to help in times of trouble.
So we will not fear when earthquakes come
and the mountains crumble into the sea.
Let the oceans roar and foam.
Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge! Selah

A river brings joy to the city of our God,
the sacred home of the Most High.
God dwells in that city; it cannot be destroyed.
From the very break of day, God will protect it.
The nations are in chaos,
    and their kingdoms crumble!
God’s voice thunders,
    and the earth melts!
The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us;
the God of Israel is our fortress. Selah

Come, see the glorious works of the Lord:
See how he brings destruction upon the world.
He causes wars to end throughout the earth.
    He breaks the bow and snaps the spear;
he burns the shields with fire.

10 “Be still, and know that I am God!
I will be honored by every nation.
I will be honored throughout the world.”

11 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us;
the God of Israel is our fortress. Selah

Psalm 46 NLT

Psalms are Old Testament poems and songs that the 1st century church sang as worship. In some Bible versions, you’ll see the word “Selah” used often. Some versions use the word, “Interlude”. No one really knows the true meaning of the word “Selah” except to pause and ponder, think about the passage you just read (or sung).

We don’t do that very often. We’re in such a hurry every day that we’ll read a passage or listen to an audio Bible, but do we really stop to think what God is trying to tell us? The Bible is how God speaks to us humans. It’s the Word of God and we are to obey it.

Moreover, it’s another way to honor God. As God tells us in verse 10…

10 “Be still, and know that I am God!
I will be honored by every nation.
I will be honored throughout the world.”

Psalm 46:10 NLT

So, be still — be quiet. Shut off all distractions for a few minutes each day and get to know God! We need to thank God, praise, and honor Him every day. Most assuredly, not because a church commands it, but because God tells us to do it in the Bible. And we obey Him, not the man-made rules and rituals, doctrines and dogmas of a church.

We obey Him because we love Him, respect & fear Him, believe in Him, want to get closer to Him, want to get to know Him, and want to seek His kingdom here on earth as it is in Heaven.

A church can’t save you. Only Jesus can.

Remember the 5 Solas

  1. Sola Scriptura (“Scripture alone”): The Bible alone is our highest authority.
  2. Sola Fide (“Faith alone”): We are saved through faith alone in Jesus Christ.
  3. Sola Gratia (“Grace alone”): We are saved by the grace of God alone.
  4. Solus Christus (“Christ alone”): Jesus Christ alone is our Savior, Redeemer, Lord and King
  5. Soli Deo Gloria (“to God alone be the Glory.”): It’s all about God not us.

If you’re not sure if you’re saved or not, if you truly want to be born again and have the assurance of salvation, receive the Holy Spirit, and get a 1-way, non-stop ticket to Heaven and that you won’t be left behind at the Rapture, this is what you have to do…
