Hell is for Real and it is Eternal – You Don’t Want to End Up There!

Hell is no joke! It’s for real and unfortunately, there are many people who will end up there because they were deceived by false preachers and teachers. Below I’ve embedded two videos in a playlist. They feature Pastor Ron Perkins and he goes into great detail all about hell — Sheol in Hebrew and Hades in Greek. It is eye-opening!

Scripture has some haunting descriptions of hell. Here are some of the ones that Pastor Ron talks about in the videos…

The Bible Talks about Hell

17 The wicked will go down to the grave. (Sheol)
This is the fate of all the nations who ignore God.

Psalm 9:17 NLT

That just about covers everybody!

The Prophet Isaiah wrote…

What sorrow for those who get up early in the morning
looking for a drink of alcohol
and spend long evenings drinking wine
    to make themselves flaming drunk.
12 They furnish wine and lovely music at their grand parties—
lyre and harp, tambourine and flute—
but they never think about the Lord
or notice what he is doing.

13 So my people will go into exile far away
because they do not know me.
Those who are great and honored will starve,
and the common people will die of thirst.
14 The grave (Sheol) is licking its lips in anticipation,
    opening its mouth wide.
The great and the lowly
and all the drunken mob will be swallowed up.
15 Humanity will be destroyed, and people brought down;
even the arrogant will lower their eyes in humiliation.

Isaiah 5:11-15 NLT

How Satan has Fallen!

“In the place of the dead (Sheol) there is excitement
    over your arrival.
The spirits of world leaders and mighty kings long dead
    stand up to see you.
10 With one voice they all cry out,
‘Now you are as weak as we are!
11 Your might and power were buried with you.
The sound of the harp in your palace has ceased.
Now maggots are your sheet,
    and worms your blanket.’

12 “How you are fallen from heaven,
O shining star, son of the morning!
You have been thrown down to the earth,
you who destroyed the nations of the world.
13 For you said to yourself,
‘I will ascend to heaven and set my throne above God’s stars.
I will preside on the mountain of the gods
    far away in the north.
14 I will climb to the highest heavens
and be like the Most High.’
15 Instead, you will be brought down to the place of the dead,
    down to its lowest depths.

Isaiah 14:9-15 NLT

Jesus Warned Us About Hell

The Parable of the Wheat and Weeds

24 Here is another story Jesus told: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a farmer who planted good seed in his field. 25 But that night as the workers slept, his enemy came and planted weeds among the wheat, then slipped away. 26 When the crop began to grow and produce grain, the weeds also grew.

27 “The farmer’s workers went to him and said, ‘Sir, the field where you planted that good seed is full of weeds! Where did they come from?’

28 “‘An enemy has done this!’ the farmer exclaimed.

“‘Should we pull out the weeds?’ they asked.

29 “‘No,’ he replied, ‘you’ll uproot the wheat if you do. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest. Then I will tell the harvesters to sort out the weeds, tie them into bundles, and burn them, and to put the wheat in the barn.’”

36 Then, leaving the crowds outside, Jesus went into the house. His disciples said, “Please explain to us the story of the weeds in the field.”

37 Jesus replied, “The Son of Man is the farmer who plants the good seed. 38 The field is the world, and the good seed represents the people of the Kingdom. The weeds are the people who belong to the evil one. 39 The enemy who planted the weeds among the wheat is the devil. The harvest is the end of the world, and the harvesters are the angels.

40 “Just as the weeds are sorted out and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the world. 41 The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will remove from his Kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42 And the angels will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in their Father’s Kingdom. Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand!

Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43 NLT

Ooh! Where have we heard that last line before?!

Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus

That’s who’s pictured above in the illustration by Good News Productions International that I found in FreeBibleImages.com, (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0).

19 Jesus said, “There was a certain rich man who was splendidly clothed in purple and fine linen and who lived each day in luxury. 20 At his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus who was covered with sores. 21 As Lazarus lay there longing for scraps from the rich man’s table, the dogs would come and lick his open sores.

22 “Finally, the poor man died and was carried by the angels to sit beside Abraham at the heavenly banquet. The rich man also died and was buried, 23 and he went to the place of the dead. There, in torment, he saw Abraham in the far distance with Lazarus at his side.

24 “The rich man shouted, ‘Father Abraham, have some pity! Send Lazarus over here to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue. I am in anguish in these flames.’

25 “But Abraham said to him, ‘Son, remember that during your lifetime you had everything you wanted, and Lazarus had nothing. So now he is here being comforted, and you are in anguish. 26 And besides, there is a great chasm separating us. No one can cross over to you from here, and no one can cross over to us from there.’

27 “Then the rich man said, ‘Please, Father Abraham, at least send him to my father’s home. 28 For I have five brothers, and I want him to warn them so they don’t end up in this place of torment.’

29 “But Abraham said, ‘Moses and the prophets have warned them. Your brothers can read what they wrote.’

30 “The rich man replied, ‘No, Father Abraham! But if someone is sent to them from the dead, then they will repent of their sins and turn to God.’

31 “But Abraham said, ‘If they won’t listen to Moses and the prophets, they won’t be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’”

Luke 16:19-31 NLT

Hell is Eternal

First, let’s not confuse hell with purgatory. For one thing, purgatory doesn’t exist. Hell does. Purgatory was invented by early Roman Catholic popes in order to extort money from poor parishioners to build St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. Consequently, you can’t buy or pray someone out of purgatory. Because, if they didn’t accept Jesus’ gift of Grace and Salvation, they are in hell for eternity — forever. Yes, it’s a sad thought.

I believe there are many Catholics & Progressives in hell crying & asking “Why?” They did what false preachers told them to do. They went to church. They called themselves Christians, did all the sacraments, got baptized as a baby, confessed weekly to a priest, said their penance, even worshiped Mary! Yet, they missed the crucial step of repentance that leads to salvation through Jesus Christ only.

That so separated them from God, that they will never get an answer.

Do You Enjoy Sin?

Would you rather be in hell with your friends than in heaven alone? Why do you think your friends are going to hell? And, why do you think you’ll be together? Hell is not one big frat party!

What is Hell?

  • Hell is a condition of retribution — punishment — and where retribution occurs.
  • Hell is the absence of righteousness.
  • There is no rest in hell.
  • Eternal flames
  • Torment
  • The furthest away from God that a person could ever be.
  • You never get out of hell. You are there for eternity.
  • Souls who go there exist in suspended isolation and darkness.

I’ll end with these thoughts from Tony Evans…

When a person dies, they go into an eternal state in one of two locations. They either go to be with the Lord because they possess eternal life, or they go to a place of eternal separation from God because they do not have eternal life and are trapped in their sin.

While it might be difficult to accept because we don’t want to face and deal with it, we’d better acknowledge and deal with it because it is inevitable for all mankind.

What a person does with Christ will determine their eternal state.

Everyone will live forever, but it is an option where you live forever. God has offered salvation to all men and gives it to those who believe. And so, since there is a choice about forever, and God makes it clear that you will die and that after death comes something else called the judgment, then you choose where you want to spend eternity. But let’s make it clear; you will spend eternity somewhere.

  1. […] 7 “What sorrow awaits the world, because it tempts people to sin. Temptations are inevitable, but what sorrow awaits the person who does the tempting. 8 So if your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one hand or one foot than to be thrown into eternal fire with both of your hands and feet. 9 And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell. […]

  2. […] 45 “A faithful, sensible servant is one to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his other household servants and feeding them. 46 If the master returns and finds that the servant has done a good job, there will be a reward. 47 I tell you the truth, the master will put that servant in charge of all he owns. 48 But what if the servant is evil and thinks, ‘My master won’t be back for a while,’ 49 and he begins beating the other servants, partying, and getting drunk? 50 The master will return unannounced and unexpected, 51 and he will cut the servant to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.(hell) […]

  3. […] Imagine that! All your life you went to church faithfully, you volunteered helping the poor, and you consider yourself a good person. You followed your religion’s rules, rites and rituals. You thought you had your ticket to Heaven. But when you get there, Jesus tells you, “I don’t know you!” Or “I never knew you!” Can anything be more heartbreaking? Worse than that, all you’ve earned is ticket to hell. […]

  4. […] 11 And I saw a great white throne and the one sitting on it. The earth and sky fled from his presence, but they found no place to hide. 12 I saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God’s throne. And the books were opened, including the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to what they had done, as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up its dead, and death and the grave gave up their dead. And all were judged according to their deeds. 14 Then death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire. This lake of fire is the second death. 15 And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire. (aka Hell) […]
